Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By using Alger County Criminal History, you agree to these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email sent to us may be retained long enough to answer and manage the exchange. It is not disclosed outside our organization unless the law compels disclosure.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, routine server and analytics records may capture these technical details:

  • The IP address assigned to your device
  • Which browser you are using and its version
  • Your device type and operating system
  • The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
  • The site that sent you here, if any
  • Timestamps for each page view

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help measure traffic, popular pages, and points where visits end. Analytics vendors may combine those measurements into reports. Browser controls can block cookies, though some functions may then work differently.

What We Do With This Data

  • Maintaining reliable page delivery and site performance
  • Routing a query to the chosen search provider
  • Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
  • Measuring which material visitors use
  • Delivering advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Alger County Criminal History does not compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It identifies official access routes through the Alger County Sheriff Department, local courts, Michigan State Police CJIC, and the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not turned into a third-party record or consumer report, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and disclosure practices apply to data entered there. We do not control those rules, so review the provider's policy before running a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to courts, sheriff pages, Michigan agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy applies. Check it before providing personal information.

Advertising vendors may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their tracking practices are outside our control.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. It may be available to the following limited recipients:

  • Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
  • Search companies that process a query submitted to their tool
  • Advertising networks that serve page ads
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security measures are used for data in our care. No internet service can guarantee perfect protection, however, and we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The service is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such data is identified, we will take steps to remove it.

Your Data Rights

Applicable privacy and consumer law may provide rights over personal data. Michigan FOIA, MCL 15.231 et seq., governs access to government records, while MCL 28.242 concerns the state criminal-history repository; neither turns this private site into a public records custodian. Subject to the law that applies, you may:

  • Request access to personal information held about you
  • Ask for inaccurate data to be corrected
  • Seek deletion where the law permits it
  • Object to or opt out of eligible processing

Updates to This Policy
