Terms of Use

These conditions govern every visit, search, and use of Alger County Criminal History. Using the website means that you accept them. Stop using the service if you do not agree.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website has no government affiliation. It is not a private investigation firm or a consumer reporting agency. Neither the site nor its advertising partners provide a service for any decision regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, including credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions. Its purpose is to route readers to Alger County and Michigan public record resources.

1. What This Website Is

Alger County Criminal History is a private reference site with no connection to a public office. It does not store or issue official criminal records, conduct official checks, or submit filings.

The material identifies the Alger County Sheriff Department, local courts, Michigan State Police CJIC, and the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry as official custodians. Some pages also connect readers to outside research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Use is allowed only on these conditions. You must not:

  • Use the service in violation of federal, Michigan, or local law
  • Harass, stalk, intimidate, or threaten another person
  • Rely on site content for an FCRA-regulated decision
  • Attempt unauthorized access to a page, account, or system
  • Operate bots, scrapers, or other automated collection tools against the pages
  • Disrupt performance or prevent another visitor from using the service

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Information obtained here or through a linked tool may not be used to harass, stalk, threaten, intimidate, or discriminate. Registry information deserves special care. Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry data supports community safety and does not authorize vigilantism or abuse against a listed person. Misuse may violate Michigan law.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and do not create consumer reports, credit reports, or official background checks. Information from this site or a linked tool must not be used to:

  • Make an employment decision
  • Evaluate an application for housing
  • Set insurance terms or assess credit
  • Determine eligibility for a license, permit, or public benefit
  • Serve any other purpose controlled by the FCRA

A legally permitted check for a regulated purpose must come from an authorized, compliant provider, not from this website.

5. No Legal Advice

General Alger County record-access information is not legal advice. A Michigan lawyer can advise how a charge, warrant, conviction, or set-aside law affects a specific matter.

6. No Warranties

All material and services are provided "as is." No promise is made that:

  • Outside search results will be complete, current, or correctly matched
  • Every page is free of errors or security flaws
  • Information will always be accurate, complete, and current
  • The service will remain available without interruption

Charges, outcomes, access limits, and Michigan set-aside status can change. Gaps are possible, and no text here is an official statement from a court, sheriff, or other public agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links can lead to courts, sheriff pages, Michigan agencies, legal resources, and outside search providers. We do not control a destination's availability, accuracy, charges, content, or data practices. Its own terms apply after you leave this site.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Alger County Criminal History or the applicable content partner. They may not be copied, modified, distributed, or adapted without written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for damages arising from use of the website or reliance on information found here or through a linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold us harmless against claims, demands, actions, fees, and costs arising from your use of the service or violation of these terms.

11. Governing Law

Michigan law governs these terms. Any dispute tied to use of the site must be brought in a court located in Michigan. Michigan FOIA, MCL 15.231 et seq., and the criminal-history repository law, MCL 28.242, govern their respective public systems but do not make this private website a government custodian.

12. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be revised. A revision takes effect when the new version is posted here.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be limited or ended at any time, with or without prior notice.

14. Severability

If one provision is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue in effect. The affected provision will be narrowed only as needed to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these terms may be directed through the Contact page.
